Being able to do flexible interesting work that fits with a retirees lifestyle is a very important contributing factor to retirement happiness. Unfortunately the employment market doesn’t cater for older people who are seeking these opportunities. We at Men in Retirement are talking with Government to see if a market could be created using public sector vacancies as a pilot. we will see how that goes.
But the other issue is as this article says, that as we age some people loose confidence in their ability to contribute, undermine our self confidence. Older people are just as productive as any other demographic. Its important to believe in this as we try and find meaningful work.
